New Zealand Mushroom Testing Requirements
In New Zealand, supplement companies are not currently required to independently test their products before selling them.
This means it is largely the responsibility of each individual company to ensure their products are safe, accurately labelled, and free from harmful contaminants.
Unless a company is actively testing their supplements and openly sharing the results, customers often have no reliable way of knowing exactly what is in the products they are purchasing.
Why Third-Party Testing Matters
At Flow State, safety and transparency come first.
We believe customers deserve to know what’s in their supplements and have confidence that the products they are taking are both safe and potent.
That’s why we voluntarily carry out third-party testing for:
- Heavy metals
- Pesticides
- Microbial contaminants
- Beta-glucan content
While this testing is not legally required, we believe it should be an important part of responsible supplement manufacturing.
Independent Testing Provides Greater Confidence
Independent laboratories provide objective testing without conflicts of interest.
This helps ensure the results are unbiased and gives both us and our customers greater confidence in the quality and safety of our mushroom extracts.
Rather than simply relying on supplier paperwork or internal testing, we choose to independently verify our products here in New Zealand.
Testing Through Hill Laboratories
We use Hill Laboratories to test for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants.
Hill Labs is an IANZ-accredited, New Zealand-owned laboratory that has provided scientific testing services for more than 40 years.
Their advanced testing equipment is capable of detecting contaminants at extremely low levels.
Verifying Potency Through Massey University
We also independently test our mushroom extract capsule products for potency.
For medicinal mushrooms, one of the most important indicators of extract quality is beta-glucan content.
These naturally occurring compounds are widely regarded as one of the primary active components within medicinal mushrooms.
Our beta-glucan testing is performed through Massey University using the Megazyme testing method to help accurately verify extract potency.
Transparency Around Our Results
We believe testing only matters if customers can actually see the results.
That’s why we openly share our latest third-party testing reports on our website so customers can review them for themselves.
This level of transparency is still relatively uncommon within the supplement industry.
The Problem With Unverified Testing Claims
Many supplement companies claim to test their products, however the testing is often conducted internally or through their supplier, with no publicly available reports.
Independent third-party testing is significantly more expensive, but we believe it provides far greater accountability and trust.
Without transparent reporting, customers are often forced to simply take a company’s word for it.
Our Commitment to Quality
For us, third-party testing is about more than meeting expectations.
It reflects our commitment to producing mushroom supplements that are safe, transparent, and independently verified for quality.
We believe customers should be able to trust what’s on the label and feel confident about what they’re putting into their bodies.
