Extraction Process For Mushroom Supplements

Extraction Process For Mushroom Supplements

The extraction process is one of the most important steps in producing high-quality mushroom supplements.

Mushroom cell walls are made from chitin, a tough structural compound that our bodies struggle to break down effectively. In order to access the beneficial compounds within the mushrooms, the cell walls need to be carefully broken down through an extraction process.

When done properly, extraction helps make the active compounds more bioavailable and concentrated, allowing you to get more from the mushrooms.

Transfer to GMP-Certified Facility

Once the mushrooms are harvested and dried, they are transferred to the extraction facility.

The extraction facility we use is GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified. This means they follow strict manufacturing standards designed to help ensure products are consistently produced in a safe, clean, and controlled environment.

Grinding and Dual-Extraction

The extraction process begins with grinding the dried mushrooms into a fine powder.

The mushrooms are then extracted using both hot water and alcohol. This is known as dual-extraction and is designed to capture both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds.

Water extraction helps isolate compounds such as beta-glucans and polysaccharides, while alcohol extraction helps draw out compounds like triterpenoids.

Heat and pressure are used throughout the process to break down the mushroom cell walls and release the active compounds within.

Without extraction, many of these compounds remain locked inside the mushroom structure and are less accessible to the body.

Spray Drying and Purification

Once extraction is complete, the liquid extract is sent through a spray drying process which removes the remaining water and alcohol.

This leaves behind a concentrated mushroom extract powder with no residual alcohol or excess liquid.

Dual-extracted tinctures follow a similar process, however they retain the liquid rather than being fully dried into a powder extract.

Testing for Safety and Potency

After extraction, the finished powders are tested for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants to help ensure they meet safety standards.

The extracts are also tested for beta-glucan content to verify potency.

Once the extracts arrive in New Zealand, we carry out additional third-party testing through Hill Labs and Massey University.

This includes testing for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbial contaminants, along with verification of beta-glucan content to help confirm the extracts are both safe and potent.

Commitment to Quality and Potency

Combined with careful sourcing and rigorous testing, we believe these extraction processes help produce some of the highest quality mushroom extracts available.

Our goal is to provide mushroom capsule extracts with a minimum 30% beta-glucan content, with some batches independently testing as high as 55%.
